APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Mike Voss has been a Local Advisor at APCO International for nearly a decade and has been involved in the public safety communications and information technology realm for over 30 years. He is currently the Technical Services Manager at Skagit 911 where he is responsible for 22 IP connected radios sites and 8 computer networks that enable Skagit 911 to function as the Skagit County PSAP and dispatch center.  Previous to working at Skagit 911, Mike was a firefighter for the Mount Vernon Fire Department. He retired after 28 years of service in 2013 at the rank of Battalion Chief. During his tenure, Mike was the on-scene Incident Commander during the 2013 I-5 bridge collapse. Mike has received several awards as a Local Frequency Advisor including Rookie of the Year, Advisor of the Year, and Outstanding Service Provider.  Mike started out studying to be a forest engineer at the University of Washington in the early 1980’s, but quickly realized his call to public safety.  He has an Associate of Technical Arts degree in Fire Command and Administration from Edmonds Community College. Mike lives in Mount Vernon, Washington with his wife Mary. They have two adult daughters, Robyn and Erin.
