APCO Seeks Comments on Draft Standards
The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International is seeking comments on four candidate American National Standards (ANS) released today. The public review and comment period is an important step in the standard development process. This provides an opportunity for all interested parties to review and contribute. Links to each draft standard are listed below and comments should include the name of the standard, line number in question, existing text and proposed resolution. Comments must be submitted by September 5, 2016.
APCO ANS 3.102.2-201x, Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Supervisor, identifies the core competencies and minimum training requirements for Public Safety Communications Supervisors. This position is typically tasked with managing daily operations, performing administrative duties and maintaining employee relations. This position provides leadership and guidance to employees in order to achieve the agency’s mission, while providing service to the public and emergency responders. Review and Comment Supervisor
APCO ANS 3.101.3-201x, Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Training Officer, identifies the core competencies and minimum training requirements for Public Safety Communications Training Officers (CTOs). This position is typically tasked with on-the-job training of agency employees on the essential duties and tasks of a public safety telecommunicator. Review and Comment CTO
APCO ANS 1.113.1-201x, Public Safety Communications Incident Handling Process, outlines the management of incoming telephone calls or reports from the public, incidents initiated by field responders, and requests from other agencies, regardless of the technology by which they are received. APCO ANS 3.106.2-201x, Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Quality Assurance Evaluators, identifies the core competencies and minimum training requirements for Public Safety Communications Quality Assurance Evaluators (QAE). The QAE administers the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) process by providing compliance oversight, reviewing and documenting an evaluation of the level of compliance with agency directives and standards in an ongoing effort to ensure the highest levels of service to the public and emergency responders.
