Meet Your AFC Advisors: Alex Whitaker (Indiana)

APCO International August 24, 2016 Industry

AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Please feel free to reach out to our local advisors with any questions dealing with FCC Part 90 licensing and frequency coordination.
alexwhitakerAlex Whitaker has been in Public Safety, in one form or another, since 1991.  He started with the Indiana State Police in July of that year as a Dispatcher at their Indianapolis Post #52. His career with the Indiana State Police lasted 18 years, culminating in him being promoted to Technical Services Engineer and APCO Local Advisor in April 2003.  He also became a member of Regions 14 and 54 – 800 MHz and 700 MHz RPCs in the same time frame.  In August of 2009, The Indiana State Police Communications Division was absorbed by the State of Indiana’s Integrated Public Safety Commission (IPSC), an agency that oversees a 150 + site 800 MHz public safety radio system.  This system serves over 63,000 First Responders in the State of Indiana.  Since that time, his title has been changed to Communications Analyst, and he works in the IPSC Network Operations Center (NOC).

Alex remarried in 2014 to Paula Lowery.  He lives on the old South Side of Indianapolis with their dog, a Rat Terrier named Daisy.  His daughter Jessica just turned 17 and will be a senior at Franklin Community High School next fall.  Alex is still actively involved in a hobby of antique radio restoration and he attends radio meets and restores radios whenever time permits.
