AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. In the summer of 1970, at the age of 16, Eric worked 8 weeks for the City of Des Moines installing two-way radios in police vehicles and was hooked. Eric began permanent employment with the City of Des Moines as a Radio Technician in 1973. He was promoted to Senior Radio Technician in 1980 and Communications Supervisor in 1986. Eric joined and served six years in the Iowa Air National Guard serving in the ground communications unit from 1972 to 1978.

Eric graduated from Des Moines Technical High School Communications Electronics core area in 1972 and passed the 1^st Class radio telephone FCC license test in 1973. He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from DMACC in electronic technology in 1980.

Eric joined the Iowa Chapter of the Associated Public Safety Communications Officials in 1986 and has served as its treasurer since 1991. He has also served 8 years, 2006 -2015, as the Executive Council member representing the Iowa Chapter at the National level.

Eric currently serves as the local frequency advisor for the state of Iowa. He serves as Secretary of the 700 and 800 regional 15 planning committees in Iowa. Eric holds a General Radio Telephone FCC license, APCO Radio Telephone Technician Certificate (1986), Amateur Extra radio license and a Private pilot certificate.
