Meet Your AFC Advisors: David Savolainen (Minnesota)
AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. David Savolainen graduated with honors from Michigan Technological University and has since been an Electrical Engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for the following 17 years. David is the staff RF engineer for the department. His primary tasks are to manage the radio assets and FCC licenses of the department and the in building distributed antenna systems for public safety and cellular needs in DOT and other state facilities. David also manages the frequency plan for the statewide, shared, ARMER radio communications system and performs all necessary FCC licensing tasks for the system. For the last 10 years, David has been able to leverage his RF experience and his experience with FCC rules and procedures as the APCO local advisor for Minnesota. In his off time, David likes to spend time with his family and learn to be a carpenter, plumber, electrician, and tile setter while renovating his 100 year old home.
