Overland Park, Kansas, January 12, 2017 – Collin County, Texas, has announced that a multi-year project to upgrade their public safety and government radio system is entering its third and final phase. Black & Veatch will provide the system implementation, acceptance testing and cutover support which will benefit the County and its 25 public safety partner agencies and departments.

“We have worked with Collin County since the inception of this system upgrade, which will provide improved radio coverage, system capabilities, capacity and reliability,” said Chris Krafft, Vice President of Public Safety in Black & Veatch’s telecommunications business.

The new system will consist of an 18-site 800 MHz P25 Phase 2 TDMA simulcast trunked radio system. Nine new radio sites will be fully integrated with the existing nine P25 sites owned and operated by the City of Plano.  The system is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2018.

The system also provides radio communications for Collin County’s local government operations that include the County’s Public Works Department, Facilities Maintenance Department and Animal Services.
