Federal Engineering Chosen to Support San Francisco’s Public Safety Radio Replacement Project
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 13, 2017 — The City and County of San Francisco, CA has chosen Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to support the implementation of its new 800MHz Public Safety Radio System.
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, Federal Engineering’s President, provided an overview of the project, “The City and County have embarked on a historic project to improve wireless communications for its first responders. Federal Engineering has successfully completed 4 phases of the project which included:
• Interview users to determine their needs
• Assess the current radio networks and their supporting infrastructures
• Analyze radio traffic and determine future channel capacity requirements
• Develop alternatives and recommendations to replace the current radio systems
• Provide technical and project management support during the system procurement
• Assist with complex contract negotiations with the vendor

Ms. Michelle Geddes, Program Manager for the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, stated: “The implementation phase services encompass the planning and design reviews necessary for successful implementation of the P25 Phase 2 radio system and subsystems being procured by the City under the 800MHz Public Safety Radio Replacement Project. FE’s tasks begin with the detailed design review of the system and end with the completion of all cutover activities. FE will provide project management, assist with risk management, maintain change control, assist with all design-related activities, support the factory order process, provide site inspections, and facilitate the field implementation process. FE will also support the development of policies/procedures for the cutover and ongoing operations of the system recommending priorities, talkgroup parameters, and configurations.”
