Meet Your AFC Advisors: Gene Thaxton (Oklahoma)
AFC, APCO’s frequency coordination department, is pleased to introduce its network of dedicated local advisor volunteers. APCO’s advisors are responsible for frequency coordination in their home state and we would like to bring awareness and recognition to the dedication they exhibit on a daily basis. Gene Thaxton has been Oklahoma’s APCO frequency advisor since 1987. He is the director of Oklahoma’s Law Enforcement Telecommunications System and is responsible for obtaining the first forty 800 MHz channels to be issued by the Federal Communications Commission for Oklahoma’s 800 MHz Trunked System. Gene is the Governor’s Representative to the Federal Communications Commission for E-911 and is Secretary to Oklahoma’s Statewide 9-1-1 Advisory Board. He is also the Chairman of Oklahoma’s Amber Alert/Silver Alert Committee. He holds a B.S. degree in Management with minors in English and Psychology.
