APCO Announces Approval of APCO Recommended Best Practices for PSAPs When Processing Vehicle Telematics Calls From Telematics Service Providers

APCO International October 12, 2017 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on September 29, 2017, for an American National Standard (ANS) that identifies Recommended Best Practices for PSAPs When Processing Vehicle Telematics Calls From Telematics Service Providers.

APCO/NENA ANS 1.114.1-2017 was developed by a work group from the 9-1-1 Emerging Technologies Committee. Work on this standard is based on original best practices identified by the Telematics Task Force.

The purpose of this document is to identify best practices and necessary operational requirements for PSAPs to receive and process vehicle initiated telematics calls. This standard provides recommendations on information exchanges and responses.

“Effective and efficient communications between the telecommunicator and telematics operator during an emergency received from a telematics call center is critical,” said Martha Carter, President of APCO International.

This standard may be downloaded at https://www.apcointl.org/standards/apco-standards-for-download.html.
