APCO Announces Approval of APCO Core Competencies, Operational Factors and Training for Next Generation Technologies in Public Safety Communications Standard
Alexandria, Va. – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on July 3, 2018 for an American National Standard (ANS) that identifies current and future challenges that next generation technologies bring to public safety answering points (PSAPs).
APCO/NENA ANS 1.115.1-2018 was developed by the 9-1-1 Emerging Technologies Committee. The purpose of this standard is to identify operational and training factors related to the receipt, processing, dispatch and utilization of multimedia systems and data. The diversity of the committee, which included representatives from PSAPs of different sizes, locations and responsibilities, played a major role in identifying the different facets that you will find in the standard.
“Establishing forward thinking standards such as this one is vital to providing adequate levels of service in a next generation environment,” said Martha Carter, President of APCO International.
