Worcester Awards Federal Engineering Radio Consulting Contract

Company Representative August 29, 2018 Product & Service Announcements

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, August 27, 2018 — Worcester County, Maryland has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to provide technical assistance in support of the implementation of a new 800MHz public safety mobile radio system.

Mr. Harold Higgins, Worcester County Administrator, said: “The County is upgrading its mobile radio system to replace a system that has reached its end-of-life and provide the latest wireless technology to our first responders. During system implementation, various technical issues have arisen, as might be expected in today’s complex digital systems. The County requires technical assistance from an experienced firm that can serve as our trusted advisor and provide independent, vendor neutral guidance as the implementation moves forward. Federal Engineering was selected because of their nationwide experience, sound references, and specific experience in technical problem solving. In addition, as a local firm, having ongoing work in Maryland, they understand our unique environment and circumstances. We are pleased to have FE on our team.”

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President and CEO, provided a vignette of the Worcester project: “We appreciate the vital importance of a radio system that can be relied upon by police, fire, EMS, and other first responder personnel. FE will conduct a project initiation meeting with the County to establish a common understanding of the project vision, goals, objectives, and specific tasks to be performed. We will conduct a review of the new radio system’s design documentation as well as review the County’s contract with the radio system vendor. FE will document our findings in a requirements traceability matrix (RTM), which will serve as the baseline for assessing the radio system’s actual performance in relation to contract requirements. We will review the RTM with the County to confirm key requirements and integrate feedback from system users.”

Mr. Bosco went on: “Working as the County’s trusted advisor, FE will establish a framework for mitigating system performance problems. We will collaborate with the County to prioritize the issues to be addressed, synthesize potential solutions, and facilitate corrective actions with the radio system vendor.”

Federal Engineering is a leading, nationwide firm providing analysis, design, procurement, and implementation support for NG911, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs. These services complement FE’s wide range of consulting services in public safety and public service communications involving LTE as well as traditional VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, and 4.9GHz mobile radio systems. FE also supports FirstNet planning in anticipation of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network. Since 1983, FE has completed thousands of communications projects for 46 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients.

In addition to its public sector work, Federal Engineering provides design and implementation support services for voice, data, and video networks used in the transportation, utilities, aerospace, finance, education, publishing, and computer services industries. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
