APCO Files a Project Initiation and Seeks Working Group Members to Revise Two Standards

APCO International November 1, 2018 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has filed a project initiation with ANSI and has issued a call for participation for working group members to participate in the revision of the APCO ANS Core Competencies and Minimum Training Requirements for Public Safety Communications Technician (CAD, Radio, and GIS) Standard and Best Practices for the Use of Social Media in Public Safety Communications.

This year, the revision of APCO ANS Core Competencies and Minimum Training Requirements for Public Safety Communications Technician Standard now includes a new component for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician in addition to a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Technician and Radio Technician.

The revision of the Best Practices for the Use of Social Media in Public Safety Communications Standard is relevant given all of the challenges agencies are facing with impacts of social media.

Both of these standards can be located on the APCO Standards for Download page.

“As the premiere public safety communications standards development organization, APCO makes it a priority to ensure that standards are regularly updated with current recommendations, requirements and best practices” said Holly Wayt, President of APCO International.
All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference for this working group on the working group sign up page.

The application deadline is December 2, 2018.  Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline and all applicants will be notified of their status.
