GeoComm Optimizes Creation of 2D Indoor Maps for 9-1-1 Response

Company Representative June 20, 2019 Product & Service Announcements

St. Cloud, MN:  GeoComm is excited to announce the availability of 2D indoor map development for increasing situational awareness for 9-1-1 call response indoors.

With the proliferation of increased wireless location accuracy being delivered via 9-1-1 supplemental location data, telecommunicators have quickly begun to understand the need and value of 2D indoor maps.  The detail provided by 2D indoor maps improves overall situational awareness and response. However, many GIS departments are not prepared or staffed to provide the level of support required to build out these detailed datasets.

2D indoor map development includes options to convert PDFs, DWGs (Computer Aided Drafting files), or TIFFs to create a georeferenced GIS layer with line or polygon representation of floor plans, room and exterior entrance labels, and building footprints. Additional features are also available to enhance the overall usability of the map such as Automated External Defibrillator (AED) fire extinguishers, restrooms, and sprinkler system riser locations.

Delivered via a 9-1-1 mapping application, such as GeoComm Dispatch Map, the 2D indoor maps provide emergency responders with more detailed information about the facilities they are responding to. This is accomplished by creating an indoor context and displaying the 9-1-1 caller location to a room or indoor location; therefore, increasing the situational awareness and reducing response times.

“GeoComm is excited to offer 2D indoor map development of important community facilities for display and utilization in 9-1-1 response to support law enforcement, fire, and medical responders in protecting the citizens they serve. We look forward to collaborating with our customers to deliver this important and lifesaving information directly into the 9-1-1 call center,” Patrick Melancon, GeoComm Senior Product Manager.
