Hearing is a form of touch. This is why we in the ECC share in the pain, distress, responsibility, success, failure and consequences of traumatic events.

Dr. Mitchell highlighted why CISM and PEER support are vital to the telecommunicator. His session included scientific research reporting that CISD to combat trauma shows better outcomes and serves to help prevent PTSD. Research also shows that multiple sessions are more effective than one.

He stresses that not having a program is not acceptable. Dr. Mitchell said, “The choice not to have a wellness program including CISM and PEER support is a choice to cause your people to not function in the future while under duress.”
