APCO Announces Approval of APCO National Standard Cybersecurity Training for Public Safety Communications Personnel
Alexandria, Va. – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on December 17, 2019, for an American National Standard (ANS) that identifies cybersecurity training standards for public safety communications personnel.
APCO 3.110.1-2019 Cybersecurity Training for Public Safety Communications Personnel was developed by a standards development committee working group. The purpose of the standard is to establish cybersecurity training for emergency communications center (ECC) staff, including public safety telecommunicators (PST), management, supervisors, administration, and other privileged users.
“This standard will enable ECC managers to instill a culture of cybersecurity awareness through the establishment of minimum training requirements and appropriate cybersecurity policies and procedures,” said Tracey M. Hilburn, President of APCO International.
