APCO Seeks Workgroup Members to Participate in the Revision of APCO’s Standard for Public Safety Communications Incident Handling Process

APCO International March 6, 2020 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has filed a project with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and issued a call for participation for workgroup members to participate in the revision of APCO’s Public Safety Communications Incident Handling Process ANSI standard.

The Incident Handling Process standard identifies the steps and decision-making points that should be taken while processing public safety requests for service. This modified standard will also address call handling metrics based on empirical data to further refine and improve the overall process.

“Processing calls for service is a critical task in the emergency communications center,” said Tracey Hilburn, President of APCO International. “It is imperative that we continue to revisit standards to ensure that they are up to date.”

APCO is looking for a well-balanced group that will include contributions from technical and operational subject matter experts. All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference for this workgroup at: Incident Handling Process Workgroup Application

The application deadline is April 5, 2020. Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline and all applicants will be notified of their status.
