Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced the introduction of the Institute’s newest course, Fundamentals of Tactical Dispatch, which prepares telecommunicators to work as part of an agency’s tactical dispatch team that responds to incidents requiring coordination of multiple agencies/jurisdictions.

Topics covered include the role of the telecommunicator, preparation and pre-deployment training, radio communications and other curriculum specific to incidents requiring multi-agency coordination. Scenarios and practical exercises are also included in the training.

“Now more than ever, it is important for emergency communications staff to be prepared in the event of a large-scale emergency,” said Derek K. Poarch, Executive Director and CEO of APCO International. “Specialized training for public safety telecommunicators is crucial to successfully manage their role when an event occurs requiring a multi-agency response.”

The course is offered online as a three-week course with the first one starting September 30 or through APCO’s Virtual Classroom as a two-day course with the first one starting October 15.
