APCO Seeks Work Group Members to Create a Standard for Minimum Technical Requirements for Remote Support to ECC Operations

Lauren Larson May 27, 2021 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has issued a call for participation for work group members to participate in the creation of an ANSI National Standard (ANS) that will establish criteria for minimum operational support requirements for a remote work situation for public safety telecommunicators (PSTs), administrative staff of an emergency communications center (ECC) and 3-1-1 operators (where appropriate).

This ANS will define the minimum requirements that can be used in an emergency evacuation situation or a stay-at-home order where separated operation and administrative staff is required. This standard will also define the minimum technical requirements and training considerations for a PST workstation.

“This standard will incorporate the lessons learned from the recent COVID-19 pandemic, and highlight the resiliency and creativity of ECCs nationwide,” said Margie Moulin, President of APCO International.

APCO is looking for a well-balanced group that will include contributions from technical, training and operational subject matter experts. The time and day that the work group will meet is yet to be established.

All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference for this workgroup. The application deadline is June 28, 2021. Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline and all applicants will be notified of their status.
