Meet Your AFC Advisor: Glen Gosnell (New York)

Glen Gosnell is currently the director of public safety for Washington County, New York. Gosnell began his career with Washington County in May of 1999 as a communications officer, prior to his promotion to director in October 2016 he had served as a supervising communications officer for 13 years. Gosnell also serves as the chairman of the Adirondack Regional Interoperable Communications Consortium, which encompasses 14 counties equaling 32% of New York. He is a NENA emergency number professional and COML. During his tenure with Washington County, he has seen the county through two radio system upgrades with the most recent upgrade went the county went to a six site VHF conventional simulcast system for all primary fire/EMS and law enforcement dispatching, and retiring the county’s low band fire communications system that had been in service since the 1960s.

Gosnell has been involved in fire/EMS since June of 1988 and has been an EMT-critical care technician for the past 27 years. He served in the Air Force from 1990-1998 as a fire protection specialist, deploying to the Persian Gulf for Operation Desert Storm in support of the F-117A Stealth. He enlisted in the Navy Reserve in December of 2001 as a hospital corpsman. During his naval career he served with the SeaBees, Military Sealift Command, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower & Reserve Affairs) and deployed to the Persian Gulf for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. His final assignment was as the senior enlisted Advisor for Operational Health Support Unit Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Virginia, retiring in 2019 as a senior chief hospital corpsman with 26 years of service.

Gosnell became an APCO local frequency advisor in 2021 and enjoys spending time his wife and family, enjoying outdoor activities and volunteering with Big Brother Big Sisters.
