Versaterm Acquires Komutel, Leading Next-Gen 9-1-1 Software Developer

Company Representative November 18, 2021 Product & Service Announcements

OTTAWA, Ontario & SAINT-GEORGES, Quebec–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Versaterm Public Safety, defining the future of public safety software for more than 40 years while serving more than 65,000 Police, Fire and EMS professionals across North America, announced today the acquisition of Komutel, a leading provider of communications solutions for emergency services call takers, including middleware for the transition from legacy 9-1-1 to NG9-1-1.

Since its launch in 2001, Komutel’s communications software has emerged as a solution of choice among 9-1-1 call takers. As these emergency services professionals face the real-world response limitations of analog 9-1-1 calls, Komutel developed a wide range of breakthrough software tools to overcome this “digital divide.” Versaterm plans deep integration of these tools with its vCAD to eliminate the “swivel chair” integration emergency call takers experience today and move to a seamless call for service to dispatch experience. Komutel has also developed a variety of custom solutions for the NG9-1-1 transition which Versaterm expects to leverage as the industry moves towards an all-digital 9-1-1 infrastructure.

“Komutel is Versaterm’s sixth acquisition since 2020. All of the new Versaterm entities share a common trait–a proven technology solution to uniquely address the real-world challenges of emergency service professionals. With this acquisition, Versaterm’s support-centric approach now extends into the 9-1-1 side of the emergency services communications center where Komutel has set the industry standard for software solutions,” said Warren Loomis, Versaterm CEO.

Loomis added, “Versaterm’s customers will also benefit from Komutel’s investment in several purpose-built, end-to-end middleware solutions to support the forthcoming transition from legacy analog E9-1-1 communications to NG9-1-1. Looking ahead, we see the transition to NG9-1-1 as a long-awaited inflection point where the efficiencies of an all-digital 9-1-1 infrastructure will finally be realized utilizing Komutel’s portfolio of 9-1-1 communications solutions.”

“Our company was built to provide 9-1-1 call takers the most advanced tools to receive, record, transfer, dispatch and manage the millions of emergency calls placed each day,” said Richard Poulin, Komutel’s CEO. “In recent years, Komutel has developed new solutions for 9-1-1 call centers in the nationwide transition of analog 9-1-1 to NG9-1-1. We look forward to continuing our growth trajectory with Versaterm and supporting their emergency services customers across North America in the years ahead.”

While deal terms were not disclosed, the transaction is the sixth in a series of strategic acquisitions completed by Versaterm since 2020 as the company continues to expand the functionality, depth and utility of its software suite. Komutel joins JusticeTrax, SPIDR Tech, Adashi Systems, eJust Systems and TechVoice as the latest solution to become part of Versaterm’s enterprise-wide platform designed to deliver the technology public safety professionals need to effectively and efficiently serve their communities.

Versaterm, a Banneker Partners portfolio company, expects to acquire other industry-leading technologies in the coming months, ensuring its public safety platform remains at the forefront of innovation for those sworn to serve given today’s increasingly complex operational demands and reporting requirements.
