APCO Congratulates FCC Chairwoman on Senate Confirmation

APCO International December 7, 2021 APCO, Government

Alexandria, VA — Today, the United States Senate voted to confirm FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel to serve another five-year term at the Federal Communications Commission. Rosenworcel was first appointed as an FCC Commissioner in 2012 and is the first woman to be designated as permanent chair. Since being named Acting Chairwoman at the beginning of 2021, Ms. Rosenworcel has undertaken several efforts to promote public safety. For example, under her leadership, the Commission has taken steps to improve situational awareness for emergency communications centers during network outages, prevent robocalls to ECCs, and protect dedicated public safety spectrum in the 4.9 GHz band.

Ms. Rosenworcel has more than two decades of experience in communications policy and public service. Prior to the FCC, she served as Senior Communications Counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation where she played a key role in the formation of the legislation that created FirstNet and a significant R&D program for public safety communications.

“APCO congratulates Chairwoman Rosenworcel on her confirmation for a new term,” APCO Executive Director and CEO Derek K. Poarch said. “Ms. Rosenworcel is dedicated to supporting public safety and has been a champion of 9-1-1 issues. We look forward to continuing to work with her to improve public safety communications.”
