APCO Announces Final Approval and Publication of Revised and Redesignated American National Standard

Lauren Larson June 24, 2022 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International received final approval for APCO ANS 1.101.4-2022 Standard for Public Safety Telecommunicators When Responding to Calls of Missing, Abducted and Sexually Exploited Children on June 17, 2022.

Calls involving missing children are often identified as one of the most difficult and stressful calls for public safety telecommunicators and other responders, the revision of this standard is designed to serve as best practice guidelines and operational models in support of effectively and efficiently processing these calls for service as well as identifying resources available to telecommunicators and law enforcement.

“Any call involving a child can be challenging to all responders, but when the child is missing the response becomes paramount in the recovery of that child.” said Jason Kern, APCO International President. “APCO and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are committed to providing a standard with the tools necessary to be successful in the recovery of all children who are missing, abducted and sexually exploited.”

This standard presents the response process in a logical progression from initial call intake through comprehensive data and information management. The standard can be found on the APCO website at Find Standards
