APCO Files a Project Initiation to Revise a Standard for the Establishment of a Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Program for Emergency Communication Centers

Lauren Larson June 30, 2022 APCO

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has filed a Project Initiation with ANSI to revise and redesignate the standard titled APCO/NENA Standard for the Establishment of a Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) Program for Emergency Communication Centers (ECCs).

The public safety industry is challenged by the type and nature of calls received into the ECC and processed by telecommunicators. The revision of this standard provides uniformed methods to evaluate the delivery of service by emergency communications personnel to ensure high standards of performance.

“Processing calls in the ECC continues to evolve and the need for effective QA/QI programs is more important than ever,” said Jason Kern, APCO International President. “The revision of this standard will provide current and advanced methods for evaluating service, which in turn enhances both citizen and responder safety.”

APCO is pleased to work with the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) on this joint effort. The Call for Participation for this Joint Working Group is open July 1, 2022, through August 1, 2022.  Sign up is available via the APCO website at Join a Working Group.
