DHS S&T & FEMA IPAWS To Demonstrate Next Generation Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Sensor Alerting Technology
Stafford, VA – On Tuesday, June 27 at 10 AM ET, at the Training & Logistics Center in Stafford, Virginia, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS), will test new technical capabilities to integrate emergency alert systems with new sensor technologies, such as unattended flood and wildfire sensors. The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Phase Two Demonstration focuses on mitigating the risks and impacts of flooding and wildfires in areas where communities and natural landscapes meet.
The demonstration, in partnership with Corner Alliance, HAAS Alert, Intellisense, N5 Sensors Inc., and Virginia Innovation Partnership Cooperation (VIPC), will seek to enhance alerting capabilities using unattended sensors in the field as alert originators with the potential to revolutionize the way communities plan and respond to emergencies. This demonstration will include capabilities to receive emergency alerts through a vehicle’s navigation and entertainment systems.
