APCO’s Commercial Advisory Council Now Accepting Applications for Membership

Commercial Advisory Council April 5, 2012 APCO

The Commercial Advisory Council (CAC) of APCO International is commencing its annual Call for Member Nominations process to seat up to six (6) members of the 24-member Council. You are invited to nominate yourself, or, with their consent, another Commercial member of APCO, to serve in this capacity. The objectives and purpose of the CAC are described as: providing guidance and support to staff, supporting the Corporate Partnership Program, soliciting and securing new corporate sponsors, providing support for international expansion, supporting chapters’ enhancement initiatives, promoting commercial membership among peers and non-member exhibitors at the annual conference and chapter/regional conferences.

The CAC is composed of between 12 and 24 Commercial members of APCO who represent the diverse interests of the manufacturers, equipment suppliers, service providers and consultants in the public safety communications marketplace. Each year, up to 6 positions on the CAC are open for election for 4-year terms.  The CAC conducts its business through a series of monthly conference call meetings, a combination in-person/conference call meeting at mid-year, and an in-person meeting during the APCO Annual Conference & Exposition in August.

Committees within the CAC work on a variety of target issues, such as continual improvement of the conference and exhibit opportunities in APCO, engagement and support of Chapter Commercial Advisory Members (CCAMs), and the providing of Commercial membership perspectives to other APCO initiatives. Each year, up to 6 individuals are elected to serve on the Council. Incumbent members of the CAC continue to serve the balance of their terms, for 1, 2 or 3 remaining years.

From within the CAC, a Chair and Vice-Chair are elected to lead the activities of the Council on an annual basis. The Council also elects one of its members to serve a two-year term on the APCO International Board of Directors. Commercial representation on the APCO Board of Directors is a relatively new feature of the APCO governance process, and provides the Commercial membership of APCO a unique opportunity to help APCO thrive as an effective industry voice in the public safety community.

If you are a motivated and engaged Commercial APCO member and would like to help make the Association even better, we encourage you to become involved in the CAC. Nominations will be accepted through May 31, 2012. The Nominations Committee will review the background, industry segment and geographical area of the nominees and then recommend a single slate of up to 6 nominees to the CAC by July 1, 2012.

All nominees will also be notified of the recommended slate. At the Annual Meeting in August, any nominees who have not been included on the slate of nominees as well as any additional nominees will be encouraged to present their nomination from the floor. Nominations do not require a second, and all nominees will be included in the final slate of nominees from which the current Council membership will elect the new members of the Council.

Nominations must include the following information and should be e-mailed to CACNominations@pei-911.com. Nominations Committee Members are Dick Solie (Profile Evaluations, Inc.), RoxAnn Brown (L.R. Kimball) and Kevin Kearns (iXP Corporation).
