Industry Council Launches NPM 2.0 Online Toolkit
Washington, D.C.—The Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT) announced the launch of its National Preparedness Month (NPM) online toolkit for emergency preparedness.
This new and interactive resource provided by iCERT, deemed the NPM 2.0 Toolkit, provides the user with tips and tools to become better prepared in the event of a major emergency, and in the midst of everyday activities. It takes the user into an environment to peruse basic tips and assess one’s current level of preparedness. With easily accessed sections entitled, Have a Plan, Get Help, and Tune In, iCERT’s online toolkit is a resource for in-the-moment needs, as well as ongoing preparedness.
“Online tools and mobile applications designed to help individuals and organizations coordinate and connect have changed the way in which people think and act in times of emergency’” said iCERT Executive Director George Rice. “iCERT’s new toolkit addresses this ever-increasing theme through an interactive repository of highly useful information.”
Knowing what to do before, during and after an emergency is a critical part of being prepared and may make all the difference when seconds count. In order for you and your family to be safe, planning in advance is key. As mobile phones have become ubiquitous, so has the use by the public of varied social media platforms available on their smart phones. Texting among friends and family has proven to be a reliable way to stay connected as incidents arise as well. And, with the proper information for preparedness, a useful app where needed, and a solid plan, our nation’s citizens, residents and visitors can be ready when crisis occurs.

About the Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT)
The Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT) represents the voice of the commercial sector in the emergency communications field. Established by a group of prominent leaders in December 2005 originally as the 9-1-1 Industry Alliance, iCERT – the Industry Council – plays an important role as the voice of companies on public policy issues impacting 9-1-1 and the emergency response system. Industry Council members believe that business leaders’ expertise can assist public policymakers and government emergency communications professionals as they address complex choices regarding advanced communications technology alternatives in the years ahead. Through advocacy, research and in coordination with the public sector, the Industry Council plays a vital role in the development and deployment of emergency response technologies.

About National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an annual campaign to encourage Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, schools, organizations, businesses, and communities. NPM is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is sponsored by its Ready Campaign in partnership with the Citizen Corps Program. While September is the month for recognizing national preparedness, the goal is to engage the public to make preparedness a part of their daily lives every day and not one single month.
