Birmingham, Ala., Police Department Goes Live on New 9-1-1 Technology

Company Representative January 24, 2013 Product & Service Announcements

Troy, Mich. (January 21, 2013) —  The Birmingham, Ala., Police Department recently implemented New World Systems’ Aegis™ Computer Aided Dispatch Enterprise.NET (CAD) software. The Police Department worked closely with New World for a smooth transition from their aging dispatch system and is already using the new 911 technology to increase efficiency and improve access to mission critical information.

“Everything went extremely well,” said Deputy Chief W.R. Tubbs. “It’s not always easy to do, but New World’s experienced project team provided direction and positive reinforcement to keep us on track.”

New World’s CAD Enterprise.NET provides advanced integrated mapping and access to important location and historical information that improves safety, decision making and resource management. With built-in workflow, the software is helping Birmingham dispatchers and first responders quickly and accurately respond to more than 720,000 calls for service each year. The new technology and integrated software simplifies reporting and the ability to analyze data for everyone at the Police Department from command staff to end users.

“It’s exciting to see where we can go moving forward with New World,” said Police Chief A.C. Roper. “Now detectives and officers on the street can quickly get their hands on information they need to do their jobs. We have made progress in lowering crime in Birmingham, but I think the key to driving down crime further is putting timely information in the hands of those who need it, to enable our team to be proactive and stay out in front of crime trends.”

The Birmingham Police Department also uses New World’s Aegis Records Management System and is leveraging the time-saving and information-sharing benefits of a single solution provider. They are looking forward to being a part of the growing community of agencies using New World’s software in the State of Alabama.

“New World is not only providing us with an integrated public safety software solution for our agency, but also improved interoperability with surrounding communities,” said Bobby Dorr, Director of Information Management Services. “Information sharing within our department and with other agencies in the future is extremely important to the safety of our community.”
