GeoComm Technical Writers Receive Award of Excellence from the Society for Technical Communication
GeoComm is pleased to announce that their Technical Writing team recently received an Award of Excellence in the User Support Materials category from the Society for Technical Communication (STC), Chicago chapter. The team, which is composed of Jill Mergen and Evelyne Anker received the Award of Excellence for their hard work on GeoComm’s GeoLynx Server Online User Help. To meet the requirements for this award GeoLynx Server’s Online User Help had to “consistently meet high standards in all areas” and “clearly demonstrate an exceptional understanding of technical communication principles.”
This award was presented to GeoComm on March 21 at the STC Awards Dinner in Chicago where they also received feedback from the judges and met other competition participants. One comment from the feedback for the GeoLynx Server Online User WebHelp summarizes a common theme among all of the judges: “The Help system is constructed and presented well. Content is easy to understand and follow. Given the presentation style, the audience is likely to find this system easy to use and helpful when needed. All components of the system are strong and show great care was applied when designing and developing this system.”
“As manager of Technical Services at GeoComm, I witness firsthand the positive effect our technical writing team has on our products and processes. We continually strive to create content that is comprehensive, intuitive, and readily accessible; this award is well-deserved recognition for the hard work and attention to detail that goes into each of our software Web Helps. I a m proud of all the compliments we receive from customer and business partners, but even more proud of the positive impact our transition from printed paper manuals to digital media has on the environment.” Scott Wolhart, Technical Services Manager.
The Society for Technical Communication is a professional association dedicated to the advancement of technical communication. The STC competition allowed participants to gain recognition in the technical communication field, view technical documentation from other technical communicators, and, most importantly, receive feedback on their technical documentation. All entrants in the competition received a detailed evaluation from three technical communication professionals and were judged based on eight specific criteria areas.
