Celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!
What a National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week it has been! Here at Public Safety Communications we’re always thrilled to spend the second full-week of April honoring the tireless efforts of telecommunicators. Since earning national recognition the early nineties, NPSTW has helped to foster an appreciation and understanding of the fact that a telecommunicator’s job is never done—they work tirelessly in a profession that seeks to protect life throughout every hour of every day, 365 days a year.
Recently, social media has allowed calltakers to share their experiences with colleagues not only in their municipality, but also within their state, nation, and throughout the world. It’s clear that there is a strong sense of community among public safety communicators, and it shows the great dedication to the work we take so much pride in.
What makes this celebration so unique are the diverse and creative ways that professionals use the week to honor their colleagues. NPSTW is an occasion not just for the standard card, but an opportunity for anyone and everyone to come up with ideas that are as personal and unique as our many telecommunicator families throughout the nation.
At the NPSTW blog, www. npstw.org, you can find many comments about how telecommunicators across the country have spent their week. From egg hunts, Jeopardy! and bingo games, to theme days that Western Wednesdays, there is plenty creativity to go around in the comm center.
While some agencies will be participating for the first time this year, for others, NPSTW has become a much-anticipated part of the year, making an indelible mark among professionals and building a lasting appreciation for their service in the community. So on behalf of PSC, thank you for all the work that you do, and please share your NPSTW traditions with us!
