NG9-1-1: What the Future Holds
So exactly what IS NG9-1-1 and how will emergency communications center (ECC) equipment and systems change? Where are we now, where do we need to be and how do we get there?? Discussion included interoperability, technology options and RFP preparation, and encouraged out of the box thinking about the ECC of the future.
In addition to open, accredited, non-proprietary standards, a great deal is still missing from the NG9-1-1 landscape. To date, there are no true NG9-1-1 deployments anywhere in the nation and this needs to change. But how do we get there? What do ECCs need to be pushing vendors and service providers to provide? This presentation discussed options for consideration to address all of those questions and posed a few more. For example, if your system is not multimedia capable, is not interoperable with other systems, and still requires proprietary interfaces and implementations, is it NG9-1-1? If you’re now “stuck” with it, how do you move into the true NG space? NG9-1-1 is far too important to public safety to approach it piecemeal, or to get it wrong. It’s up to us, public safety professionals and practitioners, to drive this discussion and the technology that results.
