#TeammatesInAction: Kimberley McCarty, Montgomery County Sheriffs Office, Texas

APCO International August 5, 2021 APCO

On July 5, 2021 at 14:01, Telecommunicator Kimberley McCarty received a 9-1-1 text call from a subject who only texted in Spanish. Kimberley was able to utilize a second computer to translate the conversation via Google thus allowing her to communicate with the caller. The caller requested police, stating he was in a vehicle with other men who had a gun and he believed they were going to kill him.

Telecommunicator McCarty was able to keep the text communications going for approximately three hours while obtaining street names, businesses and vehicle information. She was assisted by co-workers who relayed the information to the jurisdictional agencies based on the area where the car was driving. Kimberly was able to obtain pertinent information that ultimately allowed law enforcement officers to locate the vehicle and remove the reporting party from harm’s way.
