Satellite Industry Association Appointed to FCC Emergency Response Interoperability Center Public Safety Advisory Committee
Washington, D.C. FEBRUARY 7, 2011 – The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has appointed the Satellite Industry Association (SIA) to serve on its Emergency Response Interoperability Center Public Safety Advisory Committee (ERIC PSAC). Patricia Cooper, SIA president, will represent the association on the Advisory Committee.
The ERIC PSAC was chartered by the Federal Advisory Committee Act, for a period of two years through August 6, 2012. Members of the ERIC PSAC represent a diverse and balanced mix of viewpoints from public safety organizations, state, local and tribal government agencies, and entities from the throughout the communications industry. SIA’s seat will allow its members to provide satellite technical and policy expertise to recommendations to the FCC on the technical framework and requirements that will be needed to ensure interoperability of the public safety wireless broadband network.
“SIA is honored to contribute satellite perspectives to this valuable advisory committee,” said Patricia Cooper. “Satellite technology and services are a critical component of a robust, reliable and redundant public safety wireless broadband network, and we are eager to support the goal of interoperability.”
