Annapolis, Md. — TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a world leader in highly reliable and secure mobile communication technology, today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the state of Tennessee to provide Next Generation (NG) 9-1-1 management and integration services. TCS is the first company in the nation to build a NG9-1-1 solution using a state’s existing Internet Protocol (IP) network and to implement a flexible architecture that allows seamless interoperability with other vendors’ products and services.

The TCS solution will allow the state to continue deploying its current IP infrastructure while implementing NG9-1-1 services that will offer citizens the ability to communicate with emergency dispatchers via voice, data, video, images and soon text messages. The State of Tennessee manages a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network called “NetTN”. TCS will use this private IP network to ensure that its NG9-1-1 solution is aligned with public safety operators’ needs throughout Tennessee. Further, it will support call routing, location validation, and data delivery services; Network Operations Center (NOC) functions; and project and process management.

TCS’ NG9-1-1 solution enables local deployment of licensed systems for state, county, or local exchange carriers. It can also serve as a hosted service that uses TCS’ geo-redundant data centers. Additionally, TCS supports a hybrid model in which some NG9-1-1 components are licensed and others are hosted. For the state of Tennessee, TCS is providing services using a combination of in-network hardware and the company’s TL-9000 certified Network Operations Center.
