Oregon Bill Extending 9-1-1 Tax to Prepaid Cell Phone Users Falters in Legislature

A bill that would require prepaid cell phone users to pay the same tax as other phone users to support the 9-1-1 emergency system appears to be floundering in the Oregon Legislature.
The measure has faced determined opposition from the cell phone industry and may have received a death blow when lawmakers found out this week that the bill would technically be considered a tax increase requiring a three-fifths majority. Learn more.
