CPRA 2011 Dispatcher Awards
On April 14, the Southern California Chapter of APCO (CPRA) hosted its 23rd annual Telecommunicator Awards banquet at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, Calif. There were more that 250 award winners, family, friends and co-workers in attendance to celebrate and to help honor their peers.
This year, the decorations followed a Hawaiian theme with palm trees and colorful flowers everywhere. Following the dinner, entertainment was provided by Lokelani’s Rhythm of the Islands. As the dancers performed to the sound of Hawaiian music, you could almost feel the gentle trade winds blowing and smell the sweet scent of Ginger blossoms.
Robert Stoffel from the Orange County Sheriff’s Communications Division reprised his role as master of ceremonies. The award presentations were made by Ken Shearen, CPRA president. He was assisted by California Assemblywoman Norma Torres of Ontario, a former dispatcher. Following the award presentations, there were several nice gifts awarded to those who purchased a lucky raffle ticket. This enabled everyone to go home feeling like a winner.
Those who were selected for top honors this year were:
- Manager of the Year: Carol Schott, senior PSR II, Los Angeles Police Department;
- Supervisor of the Year: Katherine Salgado, dispatch supervisor, Bell Gardens, Calif.; and
- Telecommunicator of the Year: Anna May, police dispatcher, Simi Valley (Calif.) Police Department.
