COHASSET, Ma. — Police in Cohasset say a 911 call from a woman who claimed she had just given birth behind a gas station and needed medical help was apparently a hoax.
The call came in late Monday night, prompting a frantic but fruitless search for the mother and newborn.
The woman appeared to be moaning in pain and stayed on the line with a dispatcher for about 20 minutes before hanging up.
Police say the caller claimed she had given birth behind a gas station in Cohasset Village, but an ambulance sent there found nothing. Police also went to several other gas stations, checked cars and even dumpsters.
Lt. William Quigley says it appears to have been a “complete hoax.” Investigators are now trying to trace the call.
