Brown County, Wis., Takes on Emergency Dispatch for Ashwaubenon

Ashwaubenon, Wis. — Brown County takes over the village’s dispatching duties for police, fire and emergency medical services beginning today. The Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety has handled the calls in-house since 1982, but agreed to merge with the Brown County Public Safety Communications Center earlier this year to streamline services and save money.

Maine Public Utilities Commission says Merging 9-1-1 Call Centers Would Save Lives

November 15, 2010

Hallowell, Maine — The state should cover some costs for local dispatch centers to consolidate with regional 911 call centers, the Public Utilities Commission recommends. The commission believes getting local dispatch centers to consolidate voluntarily with one of 17 regional call centers would reduce costs and improve public safety.

Orchard Park, N.Y., Eyes Using Hamburg Dispatchers

Hamburg , N.Y, town dispatchers could be dispatching calls for the Orchard Park Fire District. The fire district, which operates its own ambulance service and includes three volunteer fire companies, has negotiated with the Town of Hamburg, but has not yet signed a contract for the move.
