Grant Boosts Public Safety

Lee, Ma. — The town will use a $148,000 state grant to complete a two-year upgrade of its emergency communications system. The funding from the state 9-1-1 Department of the Executive Office of Public Safety will pay for new portable radios for Lee s volunteer fire department and volunteer ambulance squad, according to Lee Police Chief Ronald Glidden.

A new — free — iPhone application provides a “virtual window” into one California agency’s dispatch and emergency response activities. The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District’s FireDepartment.org application is drawing rave reviews from local residents and first responders, as well as national and international interest. The application enables users to listen in real-time to the actions of dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics in San Ramon Valley.
