Public Safety Representatives Meet with Members of Congress to Urge D Block Allocation to Public Safety

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), along with Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), Congressman Peter King (R-NY) and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA) were joined by more than 40 uniformed public safety officials and dozens more supporters to urge members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, or Super Committee, to include S.911 language to allocate the D block spectrum within the 700 MHz band to public safety and to provide for $11 billion for construction of the Public Safety Broadband Network.

APCO Advocates Sustainable Funding of Emergency Communications

November 8, 2011

Today, The Federal Communications Commission today released its third annual report regarding states that have diverted any portion of the 911 fees they collect for purposes other than 911 programs. APCO International strongly believes that tapping 9-1-1 fees jeopardizes public safety’s ability to acquire and implement existing, as well as new and emerging, technologies necessary to continue receiving and responding to emergency situations and providing essential emergency services to citizens.

“We must ensure that public safety has the funds it needs not only to answer 9-1-1 calls, but to take action and dispatch emergency services to calls for help in critical situations,” said APCO International President Gregg Riddle.
