APCO Applauds AT&T’s New Service That Supports NG9-1-1

February 29, 2016

AT&T announced a new nationwide service designed to accelerate the adoption of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1). According to the announcement, AT&T ESInet will be deployed in collaboration with West Corporation (formerly Intrado) to enable IP-based communications that allow 9-1-1 public safety answering points (PSAPs) to route more detailed information more quickly and receive data such as pictures and video.

APCO Launches Project 43 to Tackle Broadband Implications for the PSAP

February 10, 2016

Today, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced the establishment of the next in a series of projects aimed at solving the unique problems encountered by public safety communications professionals. Project 43, Broadband Implications for the PSAP, will help telecommunicators, public safety answering points (PSAPs), 9-1-1 authorities, emergency operations centers, and others in the public safety community to embrace existing and prepare for evolving broadband communications technologies that will impact PSAP operations and support emergency responders.

Automated Secure Alarm Protocol Program Continues to Expand

February 10, 2016

New PSAPs, Alarm Central Stations and the State of Florida have recently joined ASAP program. This direct, computer-to-computer interface dramatically reduces alarm response times and human error by removing the requirement for a voice call between the alarm monitoring company and the 9-1-1 center.
