CPRA 2011 Technical Awards

FCC Extends Deadline for Membership Nominations for CSRIC Until May 13

April 20, 2011

On March 22, the FCC opened nominations and expressions of interest for membership on the rechartered Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC). The original deadline was April 22. By this Public Notice, the deadline to submit nominations and expressions of interest is extended to May 13.

Dispatcher Lauded for Response

Maquoketa, Iowa — Veteran emergency dispatcher Bob Lane was working solo on July 4 last year, as part of his regular shift at the Jackson County 911 office at the Maquoketa Law Center. Lane knew that Bellevue’s Heritage Days parade was going on that morning, but even though thousands of excited parade-goers gather for the annual event, he didn’t expect to hear about any trouble there.

York County, Pa. — On the heels of a county announcement that a fix for its radio-patching problem is coming, York County emergency responders say they’re still having issues with other important radio functions as they try to fight fires. But county officials say that part of the system is working fine, and a couple of dropped calls at fire scenes are unfortunately par for the course.

Anderson, Tenn., Dispatchers Still Enjoy Office Upgrade

Clinton, Tenn — Eleven years ago, emergency dispatchers for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department worked in a room the size of a walk-in closet on the courthouse’s third floor. “That room was barely big enough for one person,” recalls Mark Lucas, chairman of the county’s Emergency Communications District board of directors.
