Arkansas 9-1-1 Dispatchers Get Minimum Training Signed into Law

Although many cities, counties and agencies in Arkansas provide training for 9-1-1 telecommunicators, there is not a state requirement. But that is beinging to change: HB1741 will be signed by the governor today. Although it is not mandatory, it will make training available through the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy.

Sandusky, Ohio — A 26-year-old Sandusky man talked himself into an extra charge when he called 9-1-1 on a cell phone from inside a holding cell at the Sandusky Police Department. He told the dispatcher he was being held against his will, according to a Sandusky police report.

Florida Councilman Learns that a Call to 9-1-1 from Cell May Be Rerouted

Palm Beach, Fla. — Councilman Robert Wildrick learned through experience that a cell phone call placed in Palm Beach to 9-1-1 may get bounced around before ringing in at the town’s telecommunications center at the police station. Wildrick used his cell phone when he found himself face-to-face with an emergency situation last season at the docks of the North End’s Sailfish Club.

Old Tower May Be Key to Northern Exposure

Regional Communications Upgrade to Narrowband Set for July

Paris, Maine — A planned upgrade to the county’s emergency communications will finally happen in July. According to James Miclon, regional communications director for Oxford County, the federally-mandated switch to narrowband radio communication has been paid for with a $289,000 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
