Pressure Mounts for Congress to Pass Legislation Supporting Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network

Washington, D.C. — The House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology heard again from expert witnesses today about the benefits of a dedicated broadband network for public safety at a hearing entitled, “Creating an Interoperable Public Safety Network.” Public Safety Alliance witness, Chief Jeffry Johnson, discussed the dire need for D Block spectrum to be allocated to public safety before the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Honolulu Fire Department Sorry for 9-1-1 Dispatcher

A fire dispatcher’s dismissive and condescending tone with a frantic 911 caller reporting the deadly Waikele fireworks explosion led the Honolulu Fire Department to issue an apology Monday. Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the department is regretful not only for the curt responses by the dispatcher to the caller, but to everyone who hears the remark with an obscenity after the call ended.
