OPINION: Arrest of Woman Seems Like a Bad Call to a Florida Reporter

The woman was worked up, and no doubt was a challenge for a Manatee County deputy to deal with. But I still don’t get how the heck Tamika S. Williams’ arrest last week can be lawfully justified. It looks like a classic case of the proverbial crime known as “irritating a cop.” The actual charge filed: Misusing 911. But the 911 call in question sounds like a perfectly reasonable one to me.

Chesco Man Charged with Impersonating Federal Agent

June 1, 2012

On April 9, a Coatesville man called a 911 operator in Chester County and identified himself as a federal “off-duty enforcement officer.” According to a federal arrest affidavit, Eric Marques Devlin-Bell, 21, told the operator he had been driving a dark-blue, Crown Victoria “police cruiser” when he caught up with a motorist in a black Jaguar who had been speeding in excess of 100 mph on Route 202 south in Tredyffrin Township.
