Switch to Cell Phones Costs Logan County 9-1-1 Center

The switch from landlines to cell phones is costing the Logan County 911 Center thousands of dollars in tax revenue each year. Dan Fulscher, director of the Logan County Emergency Management Agency and 911, said that because cell phones are taxed at a lower rate than landlines, the emergency call center loses money every time someone ditches their landline for a cell phone.

Carper Seeks Answers on State’s 9-1-1 Funds

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper wants to know why the state diverted nearly $4 million in 911 fees last year from counties to state programs and agencies. West Virginia is one of seven states that divert money from 911 fees on wireless phones away from 911 call centers, according to a recent Federal Communications Commission report.
