Meet Your AFC Advisors: Jesse Griggs (Tennessee)

March 2, 2017

Jesse Griggs received his formal electronics training in the U.S. Navy where he was an aviation electronic technician. After he left the Navy, he went back to work with the Tennessee Department of Correction. Jesse held the following positions: correctional officer, correctional corporal, correctional sergeant, training specialist, radio communications technician 2, radio communications 3 and correctional program support coordinator- coordinator of communications and utilities. He retired with 37 years of service

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Gene Thaxton (Oklahoma)

February 23, 2017

Gene Thaxton has been Oklahoma’s APCO frequency advisor since 1987. He is the Director of Oklahoma’s Law Enforcement Telecommunications System and is responsible for obtaining the first, forty 800 MHz channels to be issued by the Federal Communications System for Oklahoma’s 800 MHz Trunked System.

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Dave Saffel (West Virginia)

February 16, 2017

Dave Saffel began his public safety communications career joining the West Virginia State Police as a chief technician of 14 counties of the state in April of 1977. In 1992, he became the chief engineer of that agency and still serves in that capacity. In 2000, he also graduated from Fairmont State University with a Bachelor Degree in Business.

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Noel Armstrong (Virginia)

February 9, 2017

Noel Armstrong joined the Virginia State Police in November 2000 as a Communications Engineer and became an APCO local advisor about a year later. Noel’s electronics background started with the US Army where was trained on the Nike Hercules Missile Systems and then instructed the tracking radars and Ground Guidance computer system for three years in uniform and seven more as a civilian.

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Angela Allen (Vermont)

February 1, 2017

Since 1989, Angela Allen has worked for the State of Vermont Department of Public Safety in the radio shop as a Communications Technician. The DPS radio shop maintains radios used by all State of Vermont agencies and departments. This includes mobiles, portables, base stations, dispatch consoles, and a statewide microwave radio system, just to name a few. Angela has been an APCO local advisor for the state of Vermont since December 2001.

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Bob Marz (Utah)

January 26, 2017

Bob Marz began his career in public safety as a Dispatcher for the Utah Highway Patrol in 1959 and within a year he was advanced to the position of Radio Engineer. He served in this position with the Patrol servicing northern Utah until 1990 when the Public Safety Communications Division was integrated with the State’s IT department. Bob retired from State service in 1998. Bob joined APCO in 1966 as a member of the then Intermountain Chapter and later that year was made the Frequency Coordinator for the State of Utah. Bob was the only member from Utah until the Utah Chapter of APCO was formed in 1972.

Buddy Jordan is an Air Force veteran and has been a communications consultant with the State of South Carolina since 1986 and an APCO advisor since 1993. When not doing frequency advisory work he maintains a cache of portable and mobile communications equipment for use during disasters and special events.

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Ben Russell (Pennsylvania)

January 5, 2017

Ben Russell became APCO’s local advisor for Pennsylvania in January of 2015. While his day job as an aquatic biologist seemingly has little to do with radio, the program he works with has air to ground communications needs when working with helicopters. Mr. Russell first got involved with radio helping to guide his program to solutions that fit the need.

Meet Your AFC Advisors: Joe Kuran (Oregon)

December 29, 2016

Joe Kuran has been devoted to maintaining public safety radio communications systems for the past 47 years. Joe’s specialty is managing Motorola Trunked 800 MHz Simulcast systems. In April of 2011, he graduated from Grantham University earning a BSEET degree.
