Ex-Dispatchers’ Lawsuits Claim Sexual Harassment

The Delaware County dispatch office is accused in two former dispatchers’ lawsuits of being a playground for various sexual activities, including displaying on county computers photographs of a dispatcher wearing only thong underwear. Shelby Haggard, a former 911 dispatch supervisor and Joey Lambert, a former 911 dispatcher, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in May 2009 against the Delaware County commissioners and the Delaware County E911 Trust Authority, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation, according to court records. Jodi Casey, an attorney with the Oklahoma City law firm of Collins, Zorn & Wagner, who is handling the county civil rights lawsuit, was not available for comment. Commissioner Billy Cornell, the only current board member who was in office at the time of the allegations, declined comment on the lawsuits on advice of Casey.

Hamilton County 9-1-1 Suing AT&T Over Unpaid Fees and False Reports

November 17, 2011

Lawyers for Hamilton County 911 filed a federal lawsuit Monday alleging that AT&T submitted false reports, neglected to pay fees for nearly a decade and used the savings as an unfair advantage against competing phone companies.

“AT&T has violated state law by filing false reports and failing to remit 911 charges necessary to pay for life-saving services,” said a statement from attorneys for the Hamilton County 911 District.

Florida City Sued Over Mistake that Cost 2 Firefighters Their Jobs

July 7, 2011

The family of a woman who died after a botched emergency call is suing North Port for negligence. Sharon Villatoro, 42, died in the emergency room of Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s North Port branch two years ago. Her emergency call became a source of embarrassment for the city after it came to light that an officer skipped Villatoro’s emergency call to watch a youth soccer game.

Family of Slain UW-Madison Student Drops Wrongful Death Claim

The family of slain UW-Madison student Brittany Zimmermann will not pursue a wrongful death claim against Dane County and will instead focus on a claim that the county is responsible for emotional distress that Zimmermann may have suffered before her death.

Judge Tosses Lawsuit over Digital 9-1-1 System

July 21, 2010

A judge has thrown out a lawsuit that sought to make York County, Pa., stop using its $36 million digital 9-1-1 radio communication system. In his ruling Monday, Common Pleas Court President Judge Richard Renn said three police unions had valid complaints about the system.
