APCO Applauds AT&T’s New Service That Supports NG9-1-1

February 29, 2016

AT&T announced a new nationwide service designed to accelerate the adoption of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1). According to the announcement, AT&T ESInet will be deployed in collaboration with West Corporation (formerly Intrado) to enable IP-based communications that allow 9-1-1 public safety answering points (PSAPs) to route more detailed information more quickly and receive data such as pictures and video.

APCO Statement on FCC Chairman Wheeler’s Call for Funding to Modernize the Nation’s 9-1-1 System

Today, in an Op-Ed in The New York Times, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler called on Congress to provide funding assistance to state and local government 9-1-1 authorities for the transition to “Next Generation 9-1-1” technology. As Chairman Wheeler rightly pointed out, the nation’s 9-1-1 system is in dire need of upgrading to technology that will provide the features necessary to best ensure the safety and security of the general public and emergency responders.

NG 9-1-1 PSAP Life Cycle Assessment to Be Completed by Federal Engineering for the State of Minnesota

November 12, 2015

The State of Minnesota has awarded federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assist the State and local PSAPs with planning for Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1). FE will perform a NG 9-1-1 PSAP Life Cycle Assessment to determine the current state of equipment technologies, the associated cost for upgrade and the frequency of replacement.
