Prospect of Federal Legislation for NG9-1-1

NG9-1-1 is an extremely complex solution, including  lots of players with differing political, technical and operational points of view. Given how complex it is, federal legislation and new funding models, including grants, will likely be required to drive it to completion.

APCO Releases Report on Broadband Implications for the PSAP

Today, APCO International announced the completion of a seminal report entitled “Broadband Implications for the PSAP.”  This report is the culmination of an exceptional, association-wide project known as Project 43.  It provides a forward-looking analysis of emergency communications, as 9-1-1 centers across the nation transition from decades-old technology to the broadband era and beyond.

First General Business Meeting of APCO 2016

The first business meeting of APCO 2016 was held Sunday afternoon at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. The event offered regulatory updates, insights on APCO’s Project 43 and a speech from second vice president candidate Holly Wayt. It was ceremoniously kicked off with a unanimous vote of approval to make APCO members Charlene Fisk and Ricky Rowell Life Members of the association.

APCO Launches Project 43 to Tackle Broadband Implications for the PSAP

February 10, 2016

Today, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced the establishment of the next in a series of projects aimed at solving the unique problems encountered by public safety communications professionals. Project 43, Broadband Implications for the PSAP, will help telecommunicators, public safety answering points (PSAPs), 9-1-1 authorities, emergency operations centers, and others in the public safety community to embrace existing and prepare for evolving broadband communications technologies that will impact PSAP operations and support emergency responders.
